Mozzarella is often mistaken to be unhealthy and fat filled because of the fact that it is used over pizza. The cheese is in fact rich in protein. It is also a great source of calcium. It keeps you full for longer and helps you from craving other snacks. Mozzarella is also great to eat on the go, because it has a light flavour and doesn’t make you sick of the flavour if you eat more of it, unlike other cheeses.
These mozzarella cheese balls are baked; hence the fat content goes down. The bread crumb coating is a crisp outer covering that breaks open to give a gooey mozzarella filling.
This, again, is a guilty pleasure and is definitely unhealthy in frequent servings. Kids generally love this snack, because it tastes a lot like pizza, but is definitely a lot less greasy or glutinous than pizza. And if this snack can take the place of pizza when one is craving it, then that’s a blessing, for sure.
Let’s have a look at how it is made.
This recipe makes 2 servings(approx. 60 g):
Mozzarella Cheese Balls Ingredients:
- 56 g mozzarella cheese, cubed and frozen
- 1/8 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 egg white
- 1/8 cup bread crumbs
- ½ teaspoon chili flakes
- ½ teaspoon oregano
- Salt to taste
Mozzarella Cheese Balls Recipe:
1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees celsius. Roll the cubes of mozzarella between your palms to make rounds of it.
2. Freeze.
3. In the flour, add the chili flakes, oregano and salt.
4. Beat the egg whites to loosen it up.
5. Line a baking sheet.
6. Take the mozzarella balls out and first dip them in the flour, then the egg white. Then roll
them in the bread crumbs. Place them on the line baking sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve hot.
