Kerala food for weight loss is possible and let me explain the "how " this would be possible through this example of a healthy meal. The most popular comfort food slated for most Malayalis is usually rice and fish with any “thoran” or sabji.

In order to achieve weight loss, it is important to learn not just what foods go in the plate but the portion size too. In the square plate it would be great to note the portion sizes of each of the components taken rice is about half a cup, fried Indian basa fish - 2 pieces, cabbage sabji/ thoran - ½ cup and moru curry which is made out of dahi or curd which would be about ¼ cup. Healthy Kerala Recipes:

1. Indian Basa Fish Fry Recipe:

  • Marinate the fish in ¼ tsp of turmeric powder, ½ tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp coriander powder, ½ tsp vinegar and ¼ tsp coconut oil, some curry leaves and a little water to make it a paste. Keep it for at least ½ an hour.

  • Fry 5 medium sizes pieces in a non stick pan with 3- 4tbsp of oil.

2. Cabbage Thoran recipe:

  • Cut 1 whole cabbage.

  • Marinate it with 1 tsp of turmeric powder, salt, 2 slit green chillies, ½ tsp of coconut oil and 1 tsp salt, 1 medium sized onion.

  • Keep it covered for at least ½ an hour.

  • Take a non stick pan, pour about 1 tbsp of oil, 1 tsp mustard seeds. Wait till it splutters.

  • Add the marinated cabbage to it. Pour about ½ cup of water. Cover and cook on low flame.

  • Finally add about ¼ cup of grated coconut to the dish.

3. Moru Curry:

  • Take about 2 cups of curd and ¼ cup of water and beat and keep aside.

  • In a kadai, take about 1.5 tbsp of coconut oil.

  • Add in the mustard seeds, then the fenugreek seeds.

  • 5-6 shallots finely cut

  • Curry leaves

  • 2 slit green chillies

  • 2 red chillies

  • When the shallots turn about golden brown, add the beaten curd to it.

  • Stir and keep it on low flame for about 3 - 4 mins. Do not make it boil.

So the above recipes are the easiest ways of preparing a quick tasty and most importantly healthy lunch or dinner.
